AMD Ryzen 3 2300U Mobile Processor with Radeon Vega 6 Graphics

AMD Ryzen 3 2300U is a 64-bit quad-core mobile APU processor for ultrathin and light laptops that was launched in January 2018. The processor has a Zen (codename Raven Ridge) architecture with 4 threads only thanks to simultaneous multithreading (SMT). It’s a uniprocessor operating at a maximum frequency of 2000MHz by default, with a base clock speed of 2.0 GHz that can boost up to 3.4 GHz depending on the workload. The chip is designed using the 14nm processing technology and has a locked multiplier which limits its overclocking capabilities.

This AMD processor supports DDR4 memory type with a dual-channel interface and a system memory specification that can reach a maximum 2400MHz for high performance. The processor is connected via the PCI Express 3.0 interface standard for communication with other machine components such as memory – with a total 384KB, 2MB, 4MB L1, L2, and L3 cache respectively. Additionally, it is well protected with security features like Enhanced Virus Protection (EPV).

Integrated Graphics

The Ryzen 3 2300U features an integrated graphics solution called the Radeon RX Vega 6. The graphics has a core count of 6 as the name suggests – which can clock up to 1100MHz, if the multiplier of the processor is unlocked for better gaming performance and high frames per second (FPS).

Power consumption

Like many other standard processors, the chip has a default TDP of 15W consuming less power (“pure power”) which is especially beneficial for thin, light laptops with good cooling systems. On the other hand, the maximum operating temperature for this processor ranges from 95oC to 105oC. Also important, there’s no thermal solution applicable for this mobile processor – it comes soldered on a board, which also makes it difficult to upgrade. The TDP is however configurable between 12 to 25W for optimal performance from the chip.

It is also worth noting some of the key features that are compatible with the AMD Ryzen 3 2300U such as DirectX 12 technology which ensures for a high-speed performance, increased FPS and reduced latency; for any AMD with integrated Radeon graphics. This chip also supports virtualization technology (AMD-V) thus improves greatly virtual machine learning. Application or programs that run using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) or AVX 2.0 are also supported with this processor for boosted performance when doing heavy calculations. Also, it has AES which speeds up encryption and decryption.
